(Orangebox Selected for PISFF 2025)
I’m excited to announce that my short film, Orangebox, has been officially selected for the 2025 Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival in the Architecture and Environment category. This selection recognizes the film’s unique take on minimalist design and cultural integration inside a remarkable architectural space in Dubai.
About Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival
For anyone unfamiliar, Psarokokalo is a respected international film festival based in Greece. It showcases impactful short films by both emerging and established filmmakers worldwide. Beyond film screenings, the event features exhibitions, masterclasses, live concerts, and immersive art installations. It’s a festival where creative ideas and fresh perspectives meet.
What is Orangebox?
Orangebox is an architectural art film set within The House of Courtyards, a beautiful residence in Dubai designed by STUDIO VDGA, an acclaimed Indian architectural firm. This house artfully combines traditional Indian design wisdom with modern minimalist style. Rather than capturing it in a conventional, static manner, I wanted to transform the experience into a cinematic story, filled with emotion, space, and atmosphere.
The film follows two symbolic characters:
-
The Vedic Maestro: representing timeless tradition
-
The Modern Muse: embodying contemporary minimalism
Through their gentle, wordless movements within the villa, the characters reflect a harmonious dialogue between past and present. Their connection mirrors the essence of the house itself — where culture and modernity coexist.
Behind the Creative Process
Working on Orangebox has been one of the most rewarding projects of my career. I focused on natural light, subtle camera movement, and a pared-down soundscape to let the architecture breathe. Moments like a hush in a shaded corridor, light shifting in a courtyard, and a character’s quiet pause became essential to the film’s emotional rhythm.
It’s a true privilege to have Orangebox selected for Psarokokalo 2025 among many remarkable films. I look forward to sharing updates, behind-the-scenes content, and hope this work encourages viewers to experience architecture in new, meaningful ways.
